ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) Pipes

Inox Steel India is one of the leading manufacturers, suppliers, and exporters of ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) Pipes, supplying to major industries across the GCC, Middle East, African nations, European countries, and North & South America.
Our ERW Pipes are produced using high-quality Carbon Steel, Mild Steel, and Stainless Steel grades, strictly conforming to ASTM A53, ASTM A500, ASTM A312 (ERW variants), IS 3589, IS 1239, and API 5L standards.

With ISO certification, IBR compliance (for SS grades), and strong quality control systems, every ERW pipe manufactured at Inox Steel India undergoes precision forming, high-frequency welding, cold sizing, heat treatment (where applicable), and mandatory hydrostatic testing — ensuring reliability, uniformity, and dimensional accuracy for low and medium-pressure service.

Our ERW Pipes are extensively used in water transportation, fire-fighting systems, structural fabrication, general engineering, mechanical frameworks, furniture, and light process industries, where consistency, weld integrity, and mill test documentation are mandatory.

🔍 What Is an ERW Pipe and How Is It Made?

An ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) pipe is a longitudinally welded steel pipe manufactured by passing high-frequency electrical current through the edges of a steel strip until they heat and fuse together — forming a clean, strong, and uniform weld without the use of filler metal.

ERW Pipes offer excellent roundness, straightness, dimensional stability, and a smooth internal bore, making them ideal for high-volume, low-to-medium pressure applications such as water lines, structural columns, fabrication supports, and mechanical assemblies.

🛠 Manufacturing Steps — How ERW Pipes Are Produced

The ERW Pipe manufacturing process is fully automated and includes:

1️ Coil Selection & Slitting
High-grade hot-rolled or cold-rolled steel coils are selected and slit into strips according to the final pipe diameter.

2️ Forming the Pipe (Cold Forming)
The slit strip passes through a series of forming rollers that gradually bend the material into a perfectly round tube.

3️ High-Frequency Electric Resistance Welding (ERW HF/HFIW)
The edges of the coil strip are heated by high-frequency electrical current and pressed together to form a fused longitudinal weld.

4️ Internal & External Weld Bead Removal
The weld bead is removed to ensure a smooth finish inside and outside the pipe.

5️ Sizing & Shaping
Pipes go through sizing stands to achieve exact outer diameter tolerances with minimal deviation.

6️ Heat Treatment (Normalizing / Stress Relief)
Applied when needed to refine grain structure and improve weld integrity.

7️ Hydrostatic & Non-Destructive Testing
Every pipe undergoes:
• Hydro test
• Eddy current test
• Visual inspection
• Weld bead examination

8️ Cutting, End Finishing & Marking
Pipes are cut to length (4–12 m), ends prepared (PE/BE/Threaded), and marked with heat numbers for traceability.

This controlled manufacturing process ensures superior weld consistency and uniform mechanical properties along the entire pipe length.

Key Advantages of ERW Pipes Compared to Other Welded Pipes

Just as seamless pipes have unique advantages over welded pipes, ERW Pipes offer their own engineering benefits, especially in cost-sensitive and low/medium-pressure applications:

High Dimensional Accuracy

Cold forming and automated welding deliver precise OD, thickness, and straightness.

Smooth Internal Surface

Minimal weld bead → lower friction loss → better water flow and lower scaling.

Superior Weld Quality

High-frequency welding produces a clean, narrow heat-affected zone (HAZ).

Cost-Effective for Bulk Projects

ERW technology is ideal for long-run production → lower cost per meter.

Lightweight Yet Strong

Perfect for structural, architectural, and mechanical support systems.

Environmentally Efficient Manufacturing

No filler metal, no flux — clean and sustainable production.

These advantages make ERW pipes the preferred choice for water lines, civil engineering, scaffolding, HVAC supports, furniture frames, and utility services worldwide.

🧭 Grades & Standards We Supply

Inox Steel India manufactures and exports ERW Pipes in the following standards:

  • ASTM A53 (Type E / ERW)
  • ASTM A500 (Structural tubing)
  • IS 3589 (Water & structural pipes)
  • IS 1239 (Light, Medium ERW)
  • API 5L (Grades B to X52 ERW variants)
  • ASTM A312 (ERW Stainless Steel variants)

These standards define chemical composition, mechanical strength, dimensional tolerances, and testing requirements, ensuring fit-for-purpose performance in global projects.

🌍 Where ERW Pipes Are Used?

ERW Pipes are essential for thousands of engineering and infrastructure systems:

🔹 Water & Sewage Pipelines

Municipal, industrial, and civil networks.

🔹 Fire-Fighting Systems

Fire hydrant pipelines, sprinkler risers.

🔹 Structural & Architectural Fabrication

Supports, frames, trusses, guard rails, furniture frames.

🔹 General Engineering & Fabrication

Automobile components, tubular structures, machine frames.

🔹 Mechanical & Utility Systems

Air, steam (low pressure), HVAC supports, ducts.

🔹 Industrial Piping

Process water, cooling lines, boiler feed lines.

🔹 Oil, Gas & Non-Critical Fluids

Suitable for low-pressure transport & casing.

Each application benefits from the consistent weld strength, dimensional stability, and cost efficiency of ERW Pipes.

ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) Pipes – Technical Grades, Standards & Engineering Guide

Just as engineers evaluate stainless steel seamless pipes based on grade, temperature, corrosion level, and pressure requirement, ERW Pipes must be selected based on the correct material category — Carbon Steel, Mild Steel, or Stainless Steel.

Below is the complete engineering guide for selecting the correct ERW Pipe for your project.
