Spiral Welded Pipes (HSAW Pipes) Manufacturer, Supplier & Exporter – Inox Steel India

Inox Steel India is one of the leading manufacturers, suppliers, and exporters of spiral welded pipes (HSAW pipes) in India, delivering large-diameter transmission pipes to global industries across the GCC, Middle East, African nations, Europe, North America, and South America.
We specialize in spiral welded pipes for API line pipe applications, water transmission pipelines, sewage systems, irrigation, slurry transport, and piling foundations, manufactured in compliance with API 5L PSL1/PSL2, ASTM A139, IS 3589, EN 10219, and international project specifications.

With ISO-certified systems, stringent weld testing, and third-party inspection (SGS, BV, DNV, Lloyd’s, TÜV), every pipe is produced using advanced helical forming and SAW welding processes that deliver high dimensional accuracy, uniform weld penetration, and long-term service reliability.

Our spiral welded pipes are widely used in oil & gas distribution networks, municipal water supply, sewage systems, mining slurry pipelines, structural piling, and marine foundations — where large diameters, continuous weld integrity, corrosion protection, and long-distance performance are critical.

What Is a Spiral Welded Pipe and How Is It Made?

A spiral welded pipe (HSAW pipe) is a cylindrical pipe manufactured by helically welding a steel coil at a fixed forming angle, producing a continuous spiral seam along the pipe’s length.
This method allows the production of very large diameters (18″ to 120″) with excellent structural integrity, weld uniformity, and cost efficiency, making it ideal for long-distance water, oil, gas, and slurry pipelines.

The pipe is formed by feeding a steel coil through a set of forming rolls, shaping it into a helix, and applying double SAW welding (internal and external) for complete weld penetration and mechanical strength. The pipe is then expanded, calibrated, hydrotested, and coated (3LPE/FBE) to meet API and project requirements.

Manufacturing Steps:

1️ Coil Inspection & Preparation
High-strength HR coils are visually and ultrasonically inspected for lamination, thickness variation, and chemical consistency.

2️ Edge Milling & Coil Conditioning
Coil edges are milled to achieve clean weld geometry and proper fusion.

3️ Helical Forming (Spiral Forming Process)
The steel coil is fed at a controlled helix angle to produce the desired diameter and wall thickness.

4️ SAW Internal Welding (ID SAW Weld)
A submerged arc welding head fuses the inner joint with continuous filler deposition.

5️ SAW External Welding (OD SAW Weld)
The outer weld is reinforced using a second SAW pass, ensuring deep seam fusion.

6️ Weld Bead Grinding & Surface Finishing
Internal and external weld beads are cleaned to achieve smooth bore and coating-ready surface.

7️ Pipe Expansion & Sizing
Pipes are expanded to achieve the required roundness, OD tolerance, and dimensional accuracy.

8️ Hydrostatic & Non-Destructive Testing
Hydrotest, ultrasonic testing (UT), weld seam NDT, CVN impact testing (for PSL2), bend and flattening tests are performed.

9️ External & Internal Coating (Optional)
3LPE/3LPP, FBE, internal epoxy coating, or coal tar enamel (CTE) applied as per pipeline specifications.

🔟 Final Inspection, Marking & Dispatch
Pipes are visually inspected, measured, marked with Heat No/Grade/OD/WT/PSL level, and packed for domestic or export delivery.

Technical Overview of Spiral Welded (HSAW) Pipes

Spiral welded pipes play a major role in large-diameter pipeline projects where long-distance transport, moderate pressure performance, corrosion protection, and structural reliability are essential.
These pipes combine helical forming, double submerged arc welding, and coil-based continuous production, resulting in excellent weld uniformity and cost efficiency for water, oil, gas, sewage, and slurry pipelines.

Inox Steel India supplies spiral welded pipes manufactured to API 5L PSL1/PSL2, ASTM A139, IS 3589, and EN 10219 standards, enabling designers, EPC contractors, and project engineers to select the correct pipe for transmission or structural applications.
